Two years of lessons. One set of exams. The stakes are real.

GCSE grades determine sixth form entry, apprenticeship options, and career pathways. Most students underestimate how much of the final grade depends on decisions made in Year 10.

Everything is decided in the final papers

Two years of classroom lessons lead to a single set of exams that determine the grade. There is no coursework buffer in Maths or Science. Students who cannot apply their knowledge under timed exam conditions do not get credit for what they know.

Grade 4 passes the threshold. Grade 5 opens the doors.

A Grade 4 is the minimum pass, but most sixth forms and competitive college programmes require Grade 5 or above in Maths and Science. The difference between the two is not just numbers, it is the level of understanding needed to answer higher-mark questions correctly.

KS3 gaps compound directly into GCSE grade ceilings

GCSE specifications assume solid KS3 knowledge. A student who did not fully secure algebraic thinking, ratio, or core scientific concepts in Years 7 to 9 will hit the limits of those gaps repeatedly throughout Year 10 and 11. Tuition addresses the root cause, not just the symptoms.

What Learntit GCSE tuition covers

Both subjects are taught in full, starting from the beginning of the specification and working through every topic in order. Lessons are aligned to the student's specific exam board throughout.

How we teach GCSE at Learntit

GCSE is not just about knowing the content. It is about being able to apply it accurately under exam conditions. Every part of our approach reflects that.

01

Start from the beginning of the spec, move at pace

We begin at the start of the specification regardless of what the student has already covered in school. We move quickly through topics already secured and spend the necessary time on those that are not. Hidden gaps are caught before they become exam problems.

02

Secure every topic before moving forward

At GCSE, partial understanding of a topic translates directly to dropped marks. We do not move on until a topic can be applied correctly to exam-style questions, not just explained in isolation.

03

Past papers built into the process from the start

Exam questions are introduced early and used throughout tuition, not saved for the final weeks. Students become comfortable with exam phrasing, mark allocation, and the standard of answers examiners award full marks to.

04

Exam technique taught alongside content

Reading questions carefully, identifying command words, allocating time across a paper, and structuring multi-mark answers are all taught explicitly. Students who know the content but lack exam technique consistently underperform against what they actually know.

Try a GCSE lesson first before committing monthly

We offer paid trial lessons so students and parents can experience the teaching properly before moving into regular monthly tuition. The trial is a real lesson covering genuine GCSE content aligned to the student's year group and exam board, not a taster session.

01

Enquire and share your goals

Tell us the student's year group, exam board, current grade in Maths or Science, and the target grade they are working towards.

02

Book the trial at the hourly rate

The trial covers real GCSE content aligned to the student's specification and exam board. It gives a clear picture of what regular tuition looks like.

03

Move into monthly tuition if it fits

If both student and parent are satisfied, regular weekly lessons are arranged on a monthly basis, structured around the full GCSE specification from the beginning.

GCSE tuition for students who need results, not just lessons

Whether a student is aiming for Grade 5 or pushing for Grade 8, GCSE tuition at Learntit is built around where they actually are and what it takes to reach the grade they need.

Students in Years 10 or 11 targeting a specific grade for sixth form or college entry

Students who follow school lessons but cannot apply their knowledge to exam questions independently

Students in Year 11 who need focused, structured support to consolidate content and build exam readiness

Students doing Combined Science who are considering switching to Triple Science and need to assess the gap

How to get started with GCSE tuition

A straightforward process to get students into the right type of structured support as quickly as possible.

01

Enquire or Book a Consultation

Share the student's year group, exam board, current grade in Maths or Science, and the target grade they are working towards.

02

Discuss Goals and the Right Option

We decide together whether 1-to-1 tuition or a group programme is the better fit, based on the student's needs, target grade, and how much time is available before exams.

03

Book a Paid Trial Lesson

The student completes a paid trial lesson aligned to their exam board and year group, giving both parent and student a clear picture of the teaching before committing to monthly sessions.

04

Begin Monthly GCSE Tuition

If the trial is the right fit, regular weekly lessons are arranged on a monthly basis with the full specification covered in order and past paper practice built in throughout.
