How to use the time between papers

Between Paper 1 and Paper 2 (3 June to 11 June)

Eight days. The first day or two after Paper 1 should be spent reviewing anything from that paper where you were uncertain, while the content is still fresh. Then shift focus to Paper 2 topics. For AQA and OCR Maths A this means mechanics content; for Edexcel it means Pure Mathematics 2.

Between Paper 2 and Paper 3 (11 June to 18 June)

Seven days. At this stage, targeted past paper practice on Paper 3 content is more valuable than broad revision. Work through questions on statistics for AQA and OCR Maths A, or statistics and mechanics for Edexcel Paper 3. Keep the volume manageable and the focus specific. Rest matters in this window.

All three papers are in the afternoon

A-Level Maths papers across all boards sit in the afternoon session at 1.30pm. This is worth noting when planning the day of each sitting. Mornings before afternoon exams should be kept calm and light rather than used for intensive last-minute revision, which tends to increase anxiety without improving performance.

What the three papers cover

A-Level Maths is split across three papers but the content does not divide neatly by topic. Pure Mathematics content appears across all three papers on every board. The differences between papers are in the applied content.

For AQA: Paper 1 is Pure only, Paper 2 adds Mechanics, Paper 3 adds Statistics. For Edexcel: Paper 1 and Paper 2 are both Pure, Paper 3 combines Statistics and Mechanics. For OCR Maths A: Paper 1 is Pure only, Paper 2 adds Statistics, Paper 3 adds Mechanics. For OCR MEI: Papers 1 and 2 follow a similar structure and Paper 3 includes comprehension alongside Pure content.

This means Pure Mathematics revision is relevant to every paper on every board and should be maintained throughout the three-paper window. Applied content is then targeted per paper depending on what your board tests in each sitting.

AS Mathematics dates 2026

AS Mathematics is still offered as a standalone qualification by AQA, Edexcel and OCR, though most schools in England no longer run AS courses following the 2017 decoupling from A-Level. Exam day essentials

  • Scientific calculator approved for your board (check your school's guidance. All three boards permit calculators across all A-Level Maths papers)
  • Two black pens, pencil and ruler
  • Your personalised exam timetable slip from your school or college
  • Photo ID if required by your centre

All A-Level Maths papers are calculator papers. Unlike GCSE Paper 1, there is no non-calculator sitting at A-Level. Formula booklets are provided in the exam by the school or college. You must use the clean copy provided, not your own annotated version.

Results day for A-Levels in 2026 is Thursday 13 August. Schools and colleges typically open from 8am, though exact times vary by centre. If you cannot attend in person, contact your school in advance to arrange how you will receive your results.

If you are working towards your A-Level Maths papers and want structured support on any of the content or exam technique, get in touch and we can discuss where the focus should go.
