How tuition at Learntit works

Four straightforward steps from first contact to your first regular lesson. No lengthy intake processes, no pressure to commit before you have seen the teaching. A process designed to help families make a confident decision.

From enquiry to regular tuition in four steps

Every student starts the same way: a conversation, a trial, and then a decision made with full information. There are no surprises in the process.

01

Enquire and book a consultation

Get in touch using the contact form or by sending a direct enquiry. Tell us the student's current level, the subject or subjects you are looking for support with, and what you are hoping to achieve from tuition.

  • No lengthy forms, just a short message
  • Share the student's year group and subject
  • We will respond to arrange a consultation
02

Discuss goals and find the right fit

We have a brief consultation to understand the student's situation, the gaps or challenges they are facing, and what is achievable within the time available. Together we decide on the right type of support.

  • 1-to-1 or group programme, discussed openly
  • Which subject or subjects to prioritise
  • Realistic goals set based on the student's level
03

Book a paid trial lesson

The student has a real lesson covering genuine content relevant to their subject, level, and exam board. It is not a taster session. Both student and parent can assess the teaching properly before committing to anything.

  • Charged at the standard hourly rate
  • No monthly commitment required at this stage
  • A real lesson, not a sales pitch
04

Begin monthly tuition

If the trial confirms the right fit, regular weekly sessions are arranged on a monthly basis. We begin from the start of the specification and work through every topic in order, at a pace set entirely by the student's existing understanding.

  • Billed monthly with no long-term contract
  • Consistent weekly structure from the first session
  • Progress tracked from lesson one

What an online tuition session actually looks like

Every session runs online via video call with a shared screen. Student and tutor work through the specification together: explanations first, then worked examples, then the student attempts problems independently while the tutor observes and responds.

Live online, no travel required

Sessions run on a video call platform. Students need a device, a stable internet connection, and a space to work. No commuting, no disruption to other commitments.

Explanation, then application

Every topic is explained clearly before the student is asked to apply it. Students are never just talked at. Working through problems with feedback in real time is the core of how every lesson is structured.

Each session builds on the last

Tuition follows the specification in order. There is no jumping between topics based on what happened in school that week. Systematic progress through the specification is what closes gaps for good.

Pricing at a glance

All tuition is billed monthly. A paid trial lesson is available before any monthly commitment is made. Students booking more than one session per week qualify for a £5 per hour discount on additional sessions.

Tuition works best when students show up consistently

The students who make the most progress through Learntit tuition are not always the most naturally able. They are the ones who attend every session, attempt the work between lessons, and start the process early enough for consistent progress to accumulate.

Students who attend every session

Progress in Maths and Science is cumulative. Missing sessions disrupts the pace and creates exactly the kind of unresolved gaps tuition is designed to prevent.

Students who start early

Starting tuition in Year 7 rather than Year 11 means the same number of hours achieves far more. Crisis tuition in the weeks before exams helps, but it cannot replace months of structured work.

Families who communicate clearly

When parents share how school is going, flag concerns between sessions, and stay engaged with the student's progress, tuition can be adjusted to respond. That responsiveness is a significant advantage of 1-to-1 support.

Common questions about the process

Answers to the questions most parents ask before starting tuition.

Do I have to commit to a long-term contract?

No. Tuition is billed monthly with no long-term contract required. A paid trial lesson comes before any monthly commitment, and monthly sessions can be adjusted if the student's situation changes.

What if the trial lesson is not the right fit?

The trial exists precisely so that both student and parent can make an informed decision. If the trial does not feel right, there is no obligation to continue. The trial is charged at the standard hourly rate, nothing more.

How often do sessions happen?

Most students have one session per week per subject. Students with a closer exam or a larger gap to close may book two sessions per week. Students booking more than one session per week qualify for £5 off per hour on additional sessions.

Can a student have sessions in both Maths and Science?

Yes. Students can have separate weekly sessions for each subject. Both subjects are taught through the same structured, spec-based approach. The multi-session discount applies when a student books more than one session per week in total.

When is the best time to start tuition?

Earlier is always better. The best time to start KS3 tuition is Year 7 or 8. GCSE tuition is most effective from the start of Year 10. A-Level from the start of Year 12. That said, starting at any point is better than not starting at all.

Is tuition available for Combined Science and Triple Science?

Yes. Both Combined Science and Triple Science are covered at GCSE. Combined Science leads to two GCSEs as a double award. Triple Science gives separate Biology, Chemistry, and Physics GCSEs. Both routes are taught in full.
